Wisconsin drops series against Arizona State
Freshman Sam Stange earns Wisconsin’s only goal in the 3-1 finale

MADISON, Wis. — Despite the high energy game and opportunities, the No. 15 Wisconsin men’s hockey team (4-4-0, 4-3-0-0-1-0 Big Ten) took a hit after falling 3-1 against Arizona State (2-3-1) in the series finale at LaBahn Arena.

The Sun Devils notched two goals, at 6:18 and 17:57 of the first period to take a 2-0 lead.

UW came out strong in the second looking to put itself on the board.

Four minutes and 21 seconds into the period, freshman Sam Stange did just that for the Badgers. On the forecheck, Stange’s skate blocked a pass and the puck caromed into the net for his fourth goal and fourth point of the season.

After the Sun Devils retaliated with a redirected point shot halfway through the second, the Badgers fought for chances, but nothing stuck as they came up empty-handed in a scoreless third period.

Notes to know:
• Senior netminder Robbie Beydoun made 25 saves on the night.
• Freshman Sam Stange earned his fourth career goal and point.

Up next: The Badgers head to Columbus for an away series against Ohio State on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 3-4 at 4:30 p.m. Friday’s game will air on ESPNU.
