Kiser Named to NABC Honors Court

The Valparaiso University men’s basketball program was represented as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced its 2019-2020 Honors Court on Wednesday.

 

Senior John Kiser (Noblesville, Ind. / Noblesville) was recognized for his academic excellence throughout his Valpo tenure. Kiser finished with a 3.57 cumulative grade point average in mechanical engineering.

 

This adds to the former walk-on’s long list of honors from this season that also includes MVC All-Tournament Team, MVC All-Bench Team, MVC Scholar-Athlete Second Team, Valpo Athletics Male Performance of the Year and Valpo Athletics Male Unsung Hero Award. He was also an MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention choice in 2017-18 and has been featured in the MVC Scholar-Athlete Spotlight.

 

Kiser averaged 6.5 points per game and was third on the team with 4.5 rebounds per outing in 2019-20, also ranking third on the team in assists (62) and second in steals (37). He averaged 10.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game during the 2020 MVC Tournament while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range and 83.3 percent from the foul stripe. Despite playing through a significant injury, Kiser exploded for a career-high 17 points in the MVC semifinal victory over Missouri State.

 

To be named to the NABC Honors Court, student-athletes must be a junior or a senior academically, must have been enrolled at their current school for at least one full academic year and must carry at least a 3.20 GPA.
