Trojans Shut Out Cougars In Season Opener

Kokomo, Ind. – The TU women’s soccer team opened the 2020 campaign in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon, recording a 3-0 shutout victory over IUK.

The Trojans (1-0-0) provided consistent offensive pressure throughout the match, firing off 31 shots, 11 of which were on goal, compared to just four for the Cougars (0-2-0). Taylor recorded 13 shots in the first half and 18 in the final 45 minutes.

Erin Teevans, Linli Tu, and Morgan Orme, all of whom scored on Saturday, led the way with six shots apiece. Eight other Trojans recorded at least one shot.

After co-leading the team in goals in 2019, Teevans and Tu picked up right they left off. Teevans opened the scoring in the 19th minute, giving the Trojans a 1-0 lead at the halftime break. After assisting on Teevans’ goal, Tu collected her first of the season in the 68th minute to give the Trojans a little breathing room in the second half.

Orme’s tally came in the 88th minute, securing the Trojans’ first win of the young season.

In her first start, freshman goalkeeper Hannah Brackenbury recorded her first collegiate shutout, making two saves in the winning effort.

The Trojans will be back in action on Wednesday, September 16 when they travel to Huntington for their Crossroads League opener. Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm.
