Trojans Pick Up Eight Academic All-District Awards
UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor football program picked up the maximum amount of College Sports Communicators NAIA Academic All-District honors recently, with eight student-athletes receiving the award. TU was one of 11 teams from the NAIA to put eight individuals on the list.
Stephen Ellis, Braxton Green, Jacob Hockett, Hutson Hohlbein, Brendan Lamb, Michael Medlock, Bryce Vasvari and Hojun Yun represented TU on the prestigious list.
Ellis earned a second-straight CSC Academic All-District award, after also collecting Academic All-American honors one year ago. The junior wide receiver boasts a 3.85 cumulative grade-point average in management systems, and ranked third on the TU roster in rushes and receptions.
Green was named a CSC Academic All-District recipient for the first time in his career with a 3.87 GPA in elementary education. During his junior campaign, the defensive end led all Trojan defenders with four sacks.
Hockett carried a 3.58 cumulative grade-point average through his junior season at linebacker for TU, earning CSC Academic All-District recognition for the first time. Hockett ranked No. 2 in the NAIA during the regular season with 122 tackles and added 15 hits behind the line of scrimmage.
Hohlbein earned his second CSC Academic All-District nod in as many years of eligibility for the honor. The junior wide receiver possesses a 3.98 GPA in political science, philosophy and economics while leading Taylor with 31 receptions this season.
Lamb backed up his CSC Academic All-American selection last season with a second-straight Academic All-District award. The junior running back owns a 3.97 GPA in management and marketing and led the Trojans in 2022 with 5.2 yards per carry out of the backfield.
Medlock repeated as a CSC Academic All-District standout with a 3.82 cumulative grade-point average in art education. The junior center anchored a front line that ranked No. 20 in the NAIA during the regular season with 22 rushing touchdowns.
Vasvari also earned a second-straight CSC Academic All-District award with a 3.60 GPA in biology science education. The junior guard helped Taylor rank No. 21 in the NAIA with 178.7 rushing yards per game during the regular season.
Yun rounded out Taylor’s list of CSC Academic All-District recipients, collecting his second award in as many years with a 3.83 GPA in exercise science. As a junior safety, Yun ended fourth on the roster with 42 total tackles for the Trojans.
The CSC Academic All-District distinction is designed to recognize student-athletes for outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the field. To receive the honor, an athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale, must have reached sophomore status academically with at least one full year at their current institution, and must have participated in over half of the team’s competitions as a key contributor during the current season.
Each University is limited to eight individuals for the award and student-athletes are nominated for the honor by their own Sports Information Department.
Ellis, Green, Hockett, Hohlbein, Lamb, Medlock, Vasvari and Yun will advance to the ballot for CSC Academic All-American honors, which will be voted on by members of the CSC before being announced on December 20.
