Trojans Drop Second Game of Weekend

CHICAGO – Playing for the second time in 24 hours, the Taylor men’s basketball team showed some fatigue in a 63-57 defeat at Governors State.

The Trojans shot just 38.9 percent in the contest, including nine-of-32 from deep against the Jaguar (2-2) defense.

A trio of Trojans cracked double figures in scoring, with Jason Hubbard leading the way with 15 points and six rebounds. Jackson Lewis closed with 13 points and three steals and Kaden Fuhrmann added 10 points, five boards and four assists.

A slow start cost TU, as the hosts netted the first nine points of the game, bolted to a 14-1 lead and maintained control throughout the opening 20 minutes, en route to a 30-23 lead at the break.

The margin grew to 38-25 before Taylor came to life with a 22-7 surge to grab a 47-45 lead midway through the stanza.

Lewis sparked the run by hitting back-to-back triples and then traded treys with Aaron Hahn, before Hubbard scored the team’s next 10 points to push TU in front by two.

Taylor’s final lead came via a Jeff Clayton jumper with 5:19 remaining, but GSU moved back on top and held the edge over the final 4:11 to secure the win.

Taylor (0-3) will play inside Odle Arena for the first time this season when it hosts Rio Grande (0-0) on Friday, November 5 at 7:00 pm.
