Trojans Dominate Boards in Comfortable Win
UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women’s basketball squad gave an all-out effort on Wednesday, outrebounding Mount Vernon Nazarene (0-3, 0-1 CL), 56-26, on the way to an 86-46 victory. The home triumph was the fourth 40-point win for the Trojans this season.
TU (6-2, 2-1 CL) ate up missed shots on Wednesday, tying its season high with a plus-30 rebounding margin. The Cougars were unable to secure an offensive rebound through the first three quarters, as the Trojans refused to allow a second-chance opportunity.
Kayla Kirtley paced the Purple and Gold with career-highs in rebounds with 11 and points with 21. The impressive outing was the second double-double and first 20-10 effort of her career. Kirtley scored 16 points between the second and third quarters, including the first eight points following the halftime break.
Taylor owned the third stanza, holding MVNU to just two points and one field goal. The visitors went one-for-15 from the field and zero-for-five from beyond the arc. The TU defense continued to dominate into the final quarter, keeping the Cougars from scoring for over 11 minutes of action.
Four Trojans carried the load on offense with Lauren James (16), Madisyn Fischer (15), Gretchen Moll (10) and Kirtley (21) each reaching double-digit points. Kirtley hit five treys on the night, matching a career-best set last season. James also found success from long range, netting four three-pointers on the way to her sixth-double-digit performance of the year.
Fischer added to her 15 points with a pair of blocks, extending her streak of games with a block to four-straight.
TU is slated for a road contest at 1:00 pm on Saturday against No. 3 Marian (6-4, 2-0 CL).
