• Ohio State extended several streaks with its 49-27 win against Rutgers on Saturday, including becoming the third Big Ten team to win 20 straight conference home games. The win also marked the team’s 22nd straight home game victory overall, which is tied for the third-longest streak by a Big Ten team in the last 80 seasons.
• Buckeye quarterback Justin Fields was once again the catalyst for the Scarlet and Gray, accounting for three touchdown passes in the first half alone. He finished the game 24-of-28 for 314 yards and five touchdowns. Buckeye wideout Garrett Wilson (104 yards, 1 TD) recorded his third-consecutive 100-yard game, becoming just the fourth Buckeye to have three or more consecutive games surpassing the century mark.
• Indiana defeated Michigan 38-21 on Saturday, snapping a 24-game losing streak against the Wolverines and marking their largest win against Michigan since 1959. The Hoosiers have now defeated multiple ranked opponents in the same season for the first time since 2004 and started 3-0 in Big Ten play for the first time since 1988. They moved up to 10th in the AP Poll, which is their highest ranking since Sept. 22, 1969.
• Northwestern improved to 3-0 on the season after a 21-13 win against Nebraska on Saturday. It marks the Wildcats’ first 3-0 start in Big Ten play since 2000. Seniors Paddy Fisher, Blake Gallagher and Chris Bergin all recorded double-digit tackles for the second game in a row. Gallagher led the team with 14 total tackles and Fisher followed behind with 13. This marked the 12th time Fisher has recorded double-digit tackles in his career, the most of any active Big Ten player.
• Maryland’s Rakim Jarrett became the first Terrapin true freshman wide receiver to have two receiving touchdowns and more than 100 receiving yards in a game since Stefon Diggs in 2012 as Maryland defeated Penn State on Saturday. The newcomer caught five passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns in the victory and recorded the third-most receiving yards by a freshman in a single game in school history.
• The Terrapins won consecutive Big Ten games in the same season for the first time with a 35-19 win at Penn State on Saturday. Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns while Jarrett and Dontay Demus Jr. combined for 11 receptions for 230 yards and two touchdowns to lead the offense while Maryland tallied seven sacks on defense and forced two turnovers, a fumble recovered for a touchdown by Chance Campbell and a Nick Cross interception.
• Tagovailoa’s three touchdown passes were the most by a Maryland quarterback in a conference game since 2010. His 676 passing yards over the last two weeks are the most by a Big Ten player this season and the most Maryland has had in consecutive games since 2013.
• Hawkeye head coach Kirk Ferentz won his 163rd game as a member of the Big Ten on Saturday, moving into fourth all-time in Big Ten history. Ferentz is one of five coaches in conference history to win at least 150 games as a member of the Big Ten Conference.
• On Oct. 23, the Big Ten Conference announced the launch of the ‘United As One’ social justice campaign. ‘United As One’ is among several conference-wide Equality Coalition initiatives dedicated to constructively and collectively recognizing and eliminating racism and hate in our society by creating resources for inclusion, empowerment and accountability.
• The Big Ten Conference established the Equality Coalition in 2020 with 227 members including presidents and chancellors, directors of athletics, coaches, student-athletes, conference and school administrators, alumni, families and friends representing all 14 institutions.
