IRVING, Texas (Dec. 15, 2022) – The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced today that “The Original” Bob’s Steak & Chop House will serve as the presenting sponsor of the NFF Hatchell Cup trophy, which is annually presented to the top high school football team in the nation for its combined on and off the field excellence.

“Engaging high schools across that nation and recognizing their accomplishments in the classroom is central to the NFF’s mission,” said NFF Chairman Archie Manning. “Adding “The Original” Bob’s Steak & Chop House as the sponsor of the Hatchell Cup provides key financial support for the trophy and our efforts to create a culture of academic excellence on high school football teams nationwide.”

“We are excited to partner with the National Football Foundation as the presenting sponsor of the NFF Hatchell Cup,” said Bob Sambol, the founder of “The Original” Bob’s Steak & Chop House. “I have been a longtime supporter of the NFF and its mission of promoting the good in the game of football. It is outstanding to see the hard work these high school football teams are putting in both on and off the field, and we look forward to recognizing the top winner each year with the NFF Hatchell Cup Presented by “The Original” Bob’s Steak & Chop House.”

Since 1993 in Dallas, Texas, the name “Bob’s” has been synonymous with a best-in-class steakhouse experience. Over the years, Bob’s Steak & Chop House has built upon the reputation it earned at its original Dallas location by opening restaurants across the nation that proudly offer the best cuts of meat available to guests, no matter where they call home.

The NFF Hatchell Cup Presented by “The Original” Bob’s Steak & Chop House is part of the NFF National High School Academic Excellence Awards, which the NFF launched in 2021 as the first nationwide recognition honoring individual high school football teams for excellence in the classroom. The awards were created with the help of state coaches associations, with Nebraska and Texas leading the initial effort. The initiative is designed to inspire and foster a culture of academic excellence on high school football teams throughout the nation.

The awards recognize the top academic high school football team winner from each level of play in each state as well as one overall national winner that receives the NFF Hatchell Cup Presented by “The Original” Bob’s Steak & Chop House, named in honor of NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell.

Since taking over the helm of the NFF in 2005, Hatchell has overseen numerous programs expanding the NFF’s reach and impact as it continues to promote the scholar-athlete ideal. His career in athletics administration spans more than five decades and includes countless accomplishments, including serving as the first commissioner of the Big 12 Conference and holding the top jobs at the Southwest Conference and the Orange Bowl.

The individual state high school coaches associations select their respective state’s winners from a pool of nominees submitted by each school’s head coach. A selection committee, created by the NFF, is responsible for choosing the recipient of the NFF Hatchell Cup Presented by “The Original” Bob’s Steak & Chop House.

Eligibility requirements for the awards include: a minimum cumulative team GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; superior academic application and performance; and a successful football season.

The NFF will announce the state winners of the 2022 NFF National High School Academic Excellence Awards and the overall winner of the 2022 NFF Hatchell Cup Presented by “The Original” Bob’s Steak & Chop House in February.
