STATE FINALS RECAP
CLASS 1A: Indianapolis Lutheran 30, Adams Central 13: Jackson Willis completed 17-of-19 for 278 yards and tied a Class 1A record with four touchdowns as the top-ranked Saints made it back-to-back titles. DeVuan Jones hauled in seven passes for 121 yards with three scores, and Micah Mackay added four catches for 92 yards with a score to help Lutheran (15-0) to its 30th straight win. Keegan Bluhm ran 27 times for 157 yards, while Ryan Black went 4-of-16 for 65 yards and rambled for two scores for the No. 2 Flying Jets (14-1). Mackay was also chosen as the winner of the Blake Ress mental attitude award.
CLASS 2A: Evansville Mater Dei 20, Andrean 10: Mason Wunderlich went 12-of-21 for 124 yards with two touchdowns, helping the No. 6 Wildcats avenge last year’s setback and claim their first championship since 2000. Ethan Stoltz added two catches for 33 yards with two scores, and Cam Marx tied a Class 2A record with a 47-yard field for Mater Dei (12-3). Drayk Bowen ran 26 times for 95 yards and tallied seven tackles for the 59ers (10-4). Joey Pierre of Mater Dei captured the Blake Ress mental attitude award.
CLASS 3A: Indianapolis Bishop Chatard 34, Lawrenceburg 14: Riley Kinnett rambled 10 times for 81 yards with two second half touchdowns, helping the No. 6 Trojans rally for their state-best 16th state crown. Drew VanVleet was 16-of-20 for 133 yards with a score, and Noah Dudik added five receptions for 50 yards with a score for Bishop Chatard (11-4). Teagan Bennett ran 22 times for 124 yards, while Alex Witte added 25 carries for 108 yards with a score for the No. 9 Tigers (13-2). Aiden Duncan of Bishop Chatard earned the Blake Ress mental attitude award.
CLASS 4A: East Central 37, New Prairie 7: Josh Ringer tied a Class 4A record with four touchdowns as the No. 4 Trojans claimed their third state crown. Ringer finished with 23 carries for 167 yards, while Eli Ashton added five rushes for 114 yards with a score and two receptions for 45 yards for East Central (13-2). Marshall Kmiecik completed 9-of-17 for 159 yards and ran 14 times for 52 yards with a score for the No. 6 Cougars (13-2). Christian Garrison of East Central was the winner of the Phil N. Eskew mental attitude award.
CLASS 5A: Valparaiso 35, Whiteland 31: Rocco Micciche’s 11-yard touchdown pass from Justin Clark with 15 seconds left lifted the No. 9 Vikings to their first state title since 1975 and second overall. Trailing 31-28 with just over five minutes left, Valparaiso (11-3) drove 80 yards in 16 plays and converted three third-down conversions along the way. Davis finished 10-of-16 for 163 yards with two touchdowns and ran 14 times for 57 yards with three scores, while Travis Davis carried the ball 36 times for 193 yards for the Vikings. Kevin Denham was 4-of-10 for 108 yards with two touchdowns, and Maalik Perkins returned the opening kickoff a state final best 98 yards for a score for the No. 2 Warriors (12-2). Valparaiso’s Connor McCall was named the Phil N. Eskew mental attitude award recipient.
CLASS 6A: Center Grove 35, Carroll (Fort Wayne) 9: Tyler Cherry went 6-of-9 for 137 yards with a touchdown and ran for another tally, leading the No. 4 Trojans to their third straight state title and fifth overall. Micah Coyle added 26 carries for 132 yards with a score, and Jalen Thompson chipped in 20 rushes for 128 yards as well as a 64-yard touchdown reception for Center Grove (12-2). Jimmy Sullivan was 14-of-26 for 136 yards and ran 20 times for 60 yards, while Camden Hershberger tallied six receptions for 66 yards with a touchdown for the No. 5 Chargers (13-1). Carroll’s Jorge Valdez was the recipient of the Phil N. Eskew mental attitude award.
