Lamb and Hohlbein Named Academic All-Americans

AUSTIN, Texas – The College Sports Communicators (CSC), previously known as College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) recently announced its 2022 NAIA Football Academic All-American honors, with Taylor picking up two awards.

TU’s junior running back, Brendan Lamb, and junior wide receiver, Hutson Hohlbein, were two of the 11 offensive players from the NAIA to receive CSC Football First-Team Academic All-America recognition. Taylor’s two honors accounted for one-third of the awards earned by the Mid-States Football Association, with TU being the lone MSFA member to earn more than one spot on the prestigious list.

Lamb became a two-time CSC Academic All-American with his latest honor, having claimed the award in each of his first two years of eligibility for the list. The junior running back owns a cumulative grade-point average of 3.97 in management and marketing and led Taylor with 5.2 yards per carry this season.

Hohlbein earned the first CSC Academic All-American nod of his career with the Trojans, following a pair of CSC Academic All-District selections. The junior wide receiver boasts a 3.98 GPA in political science, philosophy and economics and topped the TU roster with 31 receptions in 2022.

Taylor student-athletes have now combined for 121 CSC Academic All-American honors in school history, with 119 of those awards coming since 2010. Of those 121 honors, 63 have been First-Team honors.

TU’s football program has accounted for 22 of those total awards, with Lamb and Hohlbein’s honors giving the program 20 First-Team CSC Academic All-Americans in program history.

The CSC Academic All-American distinction is designed to showcase student-athletes for outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the field. To receive the honor, an athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale, must have reached sophomore status academically with at least one full year at their current institution, and must have participated in over half of the team’s competitions as a key contributor during the current season.

Students-athletes are nominated for the award by their institution’s Sports Information Department and voted on by members of CSC.
