Taylor Leaves No Doubt in Blowout Win

 

UPLAND, Ind. – The Trojans (1-1) held their home opener on Saturday afternoon, defeating Cornerstone (2-3) in a convincing 107-59 victory. All 13 Trojans tallied a point and a rebound in the dominant performance.

 

Taylor came out firing straight from the tip, opening a 23-3 lead by the end of the first quarter. TU scored the first 16 points of the game, holding CU scoreless for nearly five minutes. The two team’s looked very different on offense as the Trojans hit nine field goals at a 56.3 percent rate, while the visitors made just one shot in 14 attempts.

 

The efficient attack for TU continued throughout the contest in the team’s fourth 100-point game in the last three seasons. The squad shot 50.0 percent from the floor, while adding 15 treys and 16 free throws.

 

Lauren James paced the team for the second-straight match, posting 22 points in 22 minutes of action. The junior guard sank five-of-eight three-pointers, while falling just shy of a double-double with nine assists.

 

Three more Trojans nabbed double figures on Saturday, including Meredith Deckard with 16, Madisyn Fischer with 10 and Taylor Westgate with 13. Fischer and Deckard displayed a strong passing game as they both dished out five assists.

 

Freshmen, Lauren Farb and Claycee West, each scored their first collegiate points in the afternoon match. West finished with five points, three rebounds and one long ball.

 

The game as a whole favored the Trojans with the host squad maintaining an advantage in points, three-pointers, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals and turnovers.

 

The Purple and Gold are slated for another home bout on Monday at 5:00 pm against Madonna (0-1).
