Taylor Falls in Pitching Duel to Huntington

MARION, Ind. – Noah Huseman and Mitch Ubelhor combined to hold Huntington to two runs on six hits in each team’s second game of the 2021 Crossroads League Tournament, but the TU bats were held to one run on five hits in a 2-1 setback.

Huntington scored solo runs in the second and eighth innings, while Taylor’s lone run came via a solo dinger off the bat of Jonathan Foster in the bottom of the eighth.

The Foster homer was one of two extra-base hits for TU in the contest, with a TJ Bass double in the first accounting for the other. Taylor’s only other scoring chance came in the second when Ben Kalbaugh and Camden Knepp singled to open the frame and were stranded after advancing into scoring position with just one out.

The rest of the innings saw Taylor send only three hitters to the plate and only one Trojan reached safely in that time, as TU went in order in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth innings.

Huseman was the hard-luck loser on the mound for TU after giving up one earned run on five hits over seven innings. Huseman did not walk a batter and retired six on strikeouts.

RV Taylor (36-19) will look to keep its hopes alive in the CL Tournament when it returns to action at 1:00 pm on Monday in an elimination game against either Saint Francis (33-21) or Bethel (15-38).
