SXU, ONU Lead Softball Postseason Honor Roll

CHICAGO, Ill. — Regular-season and tournament champion Saint Xavier University and runner-up Olivet Nazarene University came away toting the most awards when the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2022 softball postseason honor roll on Friday morning. Both teams totaled six all-conference recipients with Saint Xavier collecting eight total awards and Olivet Nazarene seven.

Of Saint Xavier’s six all-league picks, five were named to the 18-member first team including repeat selections Lyda Robinson (Seneca, Ill.) and Brittany Schultz (New Lenox, Ill.). The only other repeat choice was St. Ambrose University’s Olivia McClintock (Chatham, Ill.).

Schultz also came away carrying one of the top prizes with her being named the CCAC Player of the Year. The senior catcher led the league in four categories, while ranking among the top five performers in a total of eight areas. She also ranked eighth nationally in slugging percentage at .867.

Schultz topped the conference charts in home runs (14), runs batted in (58), total bases (111) and slugging percentage. She was third in on-base percentage (.490), fourth in runs scored (44) and doubles (13) and tied for fifth in batting average at .422. Her numbers came in a total of 42 games played.

Joining Schultz as one of the top award winners was her coach Erin Mollohan-Corraro, who was named CCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Cougars to a 21-1 conference mark and an overall 36-6 record. SXU is currently ranked No. 25 in the latest NAIA Coaches’ Poll heading into next week’s NAIA National Tournament Opening Round.

The other top individual honor went to Olivet Nazarene’s Kori Fricke (Manteno, Ill.), who was named the CCAC Pitcher of the Year. The junior hurler went 17-6 with one save and a 2.63 earned run average in 2022. Of her 29 appearances, 17 were starts with 15 being complete games.

Fricke led the league in innings pitched (152.0), while tying for the top spot in wins. Her 29 appearances and 15 complete games were second best in the conference, while her 2.63 ERA ranked fifth.

The final individual award went to Indiana University South Bend catcher Maddie Leisher (Lizton, Ind.), who was recognized as the CCAC Freshman of the Year. She ranked among the top ten league performers in no less than six categories topped by her seventh-place ratings in hits (55), doubles (12) total bases (78) and on-base percentage (.480). She was also tenth in batting average (.414) and slugging percentage (.586).

Among her other numbers, Leisher drove in 22 runs, while scoring 33 times.
