SAU Sneaks by Visiting Trojans in Four Sets

 

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The TU volleyball squad traveled to Spring Arbor on Wednesday and fell, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18. The Cougars (3-2, 3-2 CL) utilized late runs in the first and third sets to edge the Trojans (2-5, 2-4 CL).

 

The two squads were knotted up at 18 points in the first set, before a 7-3 rally gave SAU the game one win. Once again, the match was tight in the third set, as the score was even at 18 and 19. The Cougars put together another run to steal the set triumph.

 

Grace Isaacs and Amanda Adams responded in the second set, combining for all 11 kills for the Purple and Gold. Each player came up with a crucial spike in the closing moments of the set, giving TU the lead at 22-21 and 24-23. Savannah Strieter put the exclamation point on the set with a solo block for the 25-23 game two victory.

 

Isaacs fueled the TU attack with a season-high 18 kills and a .324 hitting percentage. The senior had a balanced approach in the match, posting at least four kills in all four sets. Defensively, Isaacs contributed three block assists.

 

Adams dominated the early action, averaging 5.3 kills per set through the first three games. Playing in the front and back row, Adams grabbed her third double-double of 2020 with 17 kills and 10 digs.

 

The Taylor offense was set up by Kacy Bragg, posting her fourth 30-assist performance of the season. The setter dished out 35 assists to go along with three kills and three block assists.

 

Taylor will look to rebound on Saturday, facing No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan (4-1, 4-1 CL) in Odle Arena at 2:00 pm.
