Ryman reaches 1,000 points during Grace’s win

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Grace’s women’s basketball team continued its winning ways, registering an 87-41 win over Spring Arbor on Wednesday.

The Lady Lancers have won four straight games, improving to 14-7 on the season (4-5 Crossroads League).

Maddie Ryman earned the spotlight for Grace. She scored a game-high 21 points, and she eclipsed 1,000 career points during the first quarter.

Ryman is now the 21st player in team history to join the 1,000-point club. She is leading the league in scoring currently with 17.6 points per game.

Grace’s fast-paced attack gave the Cougars fits all game. SAU committed 21 turnovers and shot just 33 percent from the floor.

The Lady Lancers have held their last four opponents to less than 47 points.

The teams played even for the first three minutes, but Grace seized control of the game for good to end the period.

Grace ended the quarter on a sizzling 16-3 run to grab a 23-10 lead. Kiersten Poor scored seven points during Grace’s run, and Ryman scored eight points in the frame.

The Lady Lancers continued to outpace SAU in the second quarter. Grace quickly ballooned its lead up to 20.

Midway into the quarter, Grace scored 10 unanswered points; Ryman and Poor scored five points apiece during that run.

By halftime, Grace owned a dominant lead at 48-21. The Lady Lancers shot 55 percent from the floor compared to 35 percent by the Cougars.

Grace assisted on 12 of its 18 made field goals. Ryman poured in 17 points with three assists, and Poor scored 12 points.

In the second half, Grace’s defense continued to quiet the Cougars. SAU managed just 20 points after halftime, including nine points in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Lancers cruised to the final 46-point margin of victory.

For the game, Grace shot 52 percent from the floor, including 47 percent on 3-pointers. SAU made 33 percent overall and 21 percent on 3-pointers.

Grace held a 42-27 edge in rebounding, and the Lady Lancers turned the ball over just eight times compared to 21 times for SAU.

Ryman finished with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 0 turnovers. Kenzie McMahon tallied 15 points, 8 boards, 3 assists and 1 steal.

Poor amassed 14 points and five rebounds, and Karlee Feldman had 12 points, 7 boards, 4 steals and 2 assists.

Kaylee Patton finished with seven points and five assists, Kensie Ryman scored six points, and Olivia Pearson scored four points off the bench. Carissa Wiegman, Sally Mortensen and Kate Schlatter also scored two points during the fourth quarter.

The Lady Lancers are home again on Saturday, hosting Mt. Vernon Nazarene for a 1 p.m. tipoff at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
