CHICAGO — Olivet Nazarene University’s Alli Davis (Mount Zion, Ill.) gained her second straight Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week honor, while Saint Xavier University’s Allison Golic (Mentor, Ohio) returned to the awards stand after a one-week hiatus to be recognized as the CCAC Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
Davis extended her hitting streak to 16 games by reaching base safely in all six of Olivet Nazarene games during the seven-day period ending April 25. The senior infielder went 9-for-22 all told for a .409 batting average with seven runs scored and eight driven in.
Among Davis’ nine hits were two doubles, one triple and three home runs leading to a 1.000 slugging percentage. Her triple on Thursday against Roosevelt University tied the school record for the most in a career with 26.
Davis closed out the busy week going 3-for-4 with two home runs and four runs batted in on Friday in the second game of a doubleheader with Calumet College of St. Joseph.
Olivet Nazarene went 5-1 on the week to improve to 26-4 overall on the season. The No. 15-ranked Tigers are also 17-1 in league play, one game in front of Saint Xavier.
Starting five games last week, Golic came away with a pair of no-hitters beginning last Monday in a 7-0 shutout of Trinity International University. She struck out 12 batters, while only walking one.
The senior’s second no-hitter came on Sunday when 17 of her recorded outs were strikeouts against no walks in a 5-0 victory versus Cardinal Stritch University. She also split a pair of decisions against Olivet Nazarene last Wednesday and defeated Lincoln College on Friday.
For the five games combined covering 35 innings, Golic went 4-1 with a 1.20 earned run average and an incredible 57 strikeouts against only five walks. She also allowed just 21 hits and only six earned runs with opposing batters hitting just .164 off of her.
The No. 14-ranked Cougars went 7-1 on the week to put themselves at 26-1 overall and 15-1 in conference play.
