COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 16/15 Ohio State men’s hockey team tied the game with less than three minutes remaining, but fell to No. 13 Notre Dame, 3-2 in overtime, Friday in Value City Arena in the Schottenstein Center in front of 8,350 fans, including a record 4,205 Ohio State students.

The Buckeyes, who had their seven-game unbeaten streak end with the loss, are now 15-7-1 on the year and 7-4-1-0-1-1 in the Big Ten. The Irish improve to 16-6-0 and have a Big Ten record of 9-4-0-4-1-0. Notre Dame earned two Big Ten points with the overtime victory, Ohio State one. In the B1G, each team gets a point if a game is tied after regulation and overtime.

The teams will close the weekend and regular season series at 8 p.m. Saturday in Columbus. BTN and the Fox Sports app will televise the game, with Ohio State Radio also carrying the action.

The Short Story
Ohio State notched the only goal of the first period, with a Kamil Sadlocha tally at 9:56. In the second, the Irish tied the game at 3:20 and Ohio State’s penalty kill 2-for-2 in the period. In the third, Notre Dame took the lead at 13:36 but at 17:10 Jake Wise deadlocked the score, scoring on a delayed penalty. Ohio State had the only two power play chances in the third but was unable to take advantage of the opportunities. The Irish converted a 2-on-1 chance 31 seconds into the 3×3 overtime for the win. Jakub Dobeš made 34 saves for the Buckeyes, who were outshot, 37-29. Each team was 0-for-2 on the power play in the game. Freshman defenseman Cole McWard had two assists and points to lead the Buckeyes.

How It Happened
• Jake Wise led Kamil Sadlocha down the right wing and his backhand got through to put the Buckeyes ahead at 9:56 of the first. Cole McWard also assisted on the goal, Sadlocha’s sixth of the year.
• Each team had nine shots on goal in the first and there were no penalties called.
• The Irish tied the game at 3:20 of the second on a Graham Slaggert tally.
• Ohio State was 2-for-2 on the penalty kill in the middle period, allowing three shots on net. The Irish had the shot advantage in the second, 11-9.
• In the third, the Buckeyes had a power play chance at 8:55 but were unable to convert and at 13:16 Landon Slaggert put the Irish ahead with a goal on a rebound.
• The Buckeyes deadlocked the score at 17:10. On a delayed penalty, Jake Wise jumped on the ice for the extra attacker and scored off a pass from Ryan O’Connell, with McWard on the second assist.
• Ohio State called timeout before the power play started, but was unable to take the lead with the man advantage.
• Notre Dame outshot the Buckeyes, 16-11, in the third.
• The game went to overtime tied at two, with each team earning a point in the Big Ten standings.
• The Buckeyes had the puck early in overtime but turned it over and Notre Dame turned it into a 2-on-1, with Spencer Stastney notching the gamewinner 31 seconds into overtime. It was the only shot in overtime.
• For the game, the Buckeyes were outshot, 37-29. Jakub Dobeš made 34 saves in 60:25. Ohio State blocked 13 shots, led by James Marooney, Cam Thiesing and Will Riedell with two each.
• Each team was 2-for-2 on the penalty kill, with two penalties called on each team.
