No. 13/14 Buckeyes Post 4-2 Win over No. 14/rv Badgers
Westlund and Treloar each notch two points, Nappier makes 37 saves for Ohio State
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind four first-period goals, the No. 13/14-ranked Ohio State men’s hockey team defeated No. 14/rv Wisconsin, 4-2, Thursday in Value City Arena. Nine Buckeyes had a point in the game, led by Gustaf Westlund and Travis Treloar with a goal and an assist each and Mark Cheremeta with two assists, while Tommy Nappier made 37 saves.
The Buckeyes (2-3-0, 2-3-0-0-1-0 B1G) and Badgers (4-5-0, 4-3-0-0-1-0 B1G) will close the series at 5:30 p.m. Friday in VCA, with the game on ESPNU, Watch ESPN and Ohio State radio.

Westlund opened the scoring at 3:50 and Treloar followed at 6:55 for the Buckeyes. Quinn Preston made it a 3-0 game at 15:39 and at 17:19 Grant Gabriele scored a 5-on-3 goal for a 4-0 Buckeye lead after the first period. The Badgers scored twice in a 1:08 span in the second for a 4-2 game. Neither team scored in the third, with Nappier making 15 saves to preserve the victory.

Ohio State vs. Wisconsin
In the First … Just 3:50 into the contest Westlund scored from the high slot, set up by Kamil Sadlocha (his first assist as a Buckeye) and Tate Singleton. At 6:55 Treloar put in a rebound, with Ryan O’Connell and Mark Cheremeta posting the helpers. Preston extended the lead to 3-0 when he scored on a rebound at 15:36. Layton Ahac and Treloar assisted on the goal, Preston’s second of the year. Gabriele scored for the third game in a row, converting a Buckeye 5-on-3 power play chance at 17:19, with Westlund and Cheremeta picking up the assists. Shots were 17-9 in favor of the Buckeyes in the period.
In the Second … Ohio State carried the 4-0 lead until back-to-back Wisconsin goals in a 1:08 span, with Jason Dhooghe scoring at 13:41 and Cole Caufield tallying at 14:49. The Badgers had the shot advantage, 15-7, in the stanza.
In the Third … Neither team scored in the third, with Wisconsin outshooting the Buckeyes, 15-7. The Ohio State penalty kill had a big stop in the final four minutes. The Badgers skated with their net empty for the final 2:50, including during their power play, but the Buckeyes closed out the win.
Shots … The Buckeyes were outshot, 39-31. Nappier played 59:20 for the Buckeyes and had 37 stops, while Wisconsin starter Robbie Beydoun had 13 saves on 17 shots in 20 minutes. Cameron Rowe finished out the game and stopped all 14 shots he faced in 37:10.
The Buckeyes had 14 shot blocks, led by Eugene Fadyeyev with three and Ahac and Gabriele with two each.
Special Teams … The Buckeyes were 1-for-3 with the man advantage and the penalty kill was 2-for-2, including a stop in the final four minutes.
