Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State Earn Three Stars Honors

Wolverines’ Blankenburg earns First Star accolades after recording five points in a weekend sweep of Niagara

 

First Star

Nick Blankenburg, Michigan

D – Sr. – Washington, Mich.

 

  • Led the Wolverines to a sweep of Niagara, scoring three goals and adding two assists for five points on the weekend
  • Finished the weekend with a plus-four rating and had four blocked shots
  • Scored back-to-back goals, including the game winner, and added an assist on Saturday for his first multi-goal game since Dec. 3, 2020
  • Earns his second career weekly award and his first of the season
  • Last Michigan honorees: Matty Beniers (First Star) and Owen Power (Second Star) on Nov. 16, 2021

 

Second Star

Tyler Paquette, Penn State

F – So. – Collegeville, Pa.

 

  • Led the Big Ten with three goals to help the Nittany Lions to a series sweep of St. Thomas
  • Tied his career high with his second multi-goal game this season in a 5-1 victory on Nov. 23
  • Scored the eventual game-winning tally in a 4-1 victory on Nov. 24, marking the first time in his career he has registered points in back-to-back games
  • Claims his first career weekly honor
  • Last Penn State honoree: Jimmy Dowd Jr. (Third Star) on Nov. 23, 2021

 

Third Star

Georgii Merkulov, Ohio State

F – Fr. – Ryazan, Russia

 

  • Led the Buckeyes with four points, with a goal and an assist in each game, against Merychurst
  • Scored a goal at 13:19 of the third period and had the primary assist on an extra-attacker score at 16:31 of the final frame as the Buckeyes tried to rally on Friday
  • Put the Buckeyes ahead 2-1 late in the second period on Saturday, before recording the primary assist on the game-winning goal
  • Claims his first career weekly honor
