Things didn’t go so well as I went 10-5 (67 percent) last week. As the regular season heads pastthe midway point, my overall record is 55-18, which leaves me at 75 percent for the season.

NORTHERN INDIANA CONFERENCE

Jimtown (2-2, 1-0 NIC) at Bremen (2-2, 1-0 NIC): The Jimmies were a 32-19 winner over Bremen during the 2021 campaign. Bishop Williams’ one-yard scoring run proved to be the difference in Jimtown’s 20-12 win at Glenn. Angel Estrada booted a 25-yard field goal in the Lions’ 51-10 loss to Triton. Matt’s pick: Jimtown 33, Bremen 11.

Knox (2-2) at Glenn (3-1): The Falcons soared to a 28-7 win against Knox a season ago. The Redskins’ 26-0 loss to No. 3 (Class 1A) North Judson marked the first time they were shutout since the 2019 Class 3A regional final (17-0 to Marian). Aden Johnson’s two touchdown passes were not enough for Glenn against Jimtown. Matt’s pick: Glenn 17, Knox 10.

Marian (1-3, 0-1 NIC) at Adams (1-3 0-1 NIC) (TCU School Field): The Knights crowned Adams, 35-3, in their previous meeting. William Owens came up with five catches for 72 yards in Marian’s 34-14 loss to No. 5 (Class 4A) New Prairie. Jeremiah Love’s two trips to the end zone were not enough for the Eagles in their 21-14 loss at Saint Joseph. Matt’s pick: Marian 25, Adams 18.

Penn (2-2) at Elkhart (4-0): The Kingsmen downed Elkhart, 31-3 and 21-7, a year ago. Jake Balis tallied 32 yards on the ground in Penn’s 35-10 loss to Saint Xavier (Ohio). Quinn Rost went 10-of-13 for 76 yards with a touchdown in the Lions’ 41-0 win over Washington. Matt’s pick: Penn 24, Elkhart 22

Saint Joseph (2-2, 0-1 NIC) at New Prairie (4-0, 1-0 NIC): The Cougars earned a pair of victories against Saint Joseph last season by counts of 35-0 and 35-3. Alex Ortiz ran and threw for touchdowns for the Indians against Adams. Kole Staley recorded eight tackles for New Prairie against Marian. Matt’s pick: New Prairie 43, Saint Joseph 17.

Washington (0-4, 0-1 NIC) at Clay (0-4, 0-1 NIC): The Panthers clawed past Clay, 35-0, last year. Tyrin Reed ran nine times for 38 yards for Washington against Elkhart. Marcus Rankin came up with 50 yards rushing in the Colonials’ 42-0 loss to Riley. Matt’s pick: Washington 16, Clay 6.

Indianapolis Washington (0-4) at Riley (2-2) (Saturday at TCU School Field): The Continentals are battling Riley for the first time on the gridiron. A 53-6 setback to Indiana Deaf marked Washington’s sixth straight loss dating back to last year. Caleb Francis hauled in six passes for 147 yards with two scores for the Wildcats against Clay. Matt’s pick: Riley 37, Indianapolis Washington 15.

NORTHERN LAKES CONFERENCE

Concord (1-3, 0-2 NLC) at Wawasee (1-3, 1-1 NLC): The Minutemen posted a 44-0 win over Wawasee a season ago. Juan Ross had four receptions for 77 yards in Concord’s 19-0 loss to Warsaw. Brandon Kelly scampered 20 times for 144 yards with two scores in the Warriors’ 44-28 win at Plymouth. Matt’s pick: Concord 20, Wawasee 9.

Northridge (1-3, 0-2 NLC) at Goshen (1-3. 1-1 NLC): The Raiders claimed a 35-10 win over Goshen last year. Qade Carrington tossed a 42-yard pass for a score in Northridge’s 42-7 loss to No. 5 (Class 4A) NorthWood. Adam Ellison accounted for 37 yards on the ground with a touchdown in the RedHawks’ 37-6 loss to No. 2 (Class 5A) Mishawaka. Matt’s pick: Northridge 26, Goshen 19.

Plymouth (0-4, 0-2 NLC) at Mishawaka (4-0, 2-0 NLC): The Cavemen blanked Plymouth, 42-0, a year ago. Michael Gibbons tallied 13 carries for 51 yards with a score for the Rockies against Wawasee. Ace Troyer managed three catches for 71 yards for Mishawaka against Goshen. Matt’s pick: Mishawaka 42, Plymouth 8.

Warsaw (4-0, 2-0 NLC) at NorthWood (4-0, 2-0 NLC): The Panthers suffered a 42-24 loss to Warsaw last season. Grady Nolin crossed the goal line for the Tigers against Concord. J.J. Payne returned a fumble 41 yards for a touchdown for NorthWood against Northridge. Matt’s pick: NorthWood 29, Warsaw 28.

DUNELAND CONFERENCE

Chesterton (1-3, 0-2 DAC) at Valparaiso (3-1, 2-0 DAC): The No. 5 (Class 5A) Vikings edged Chesterton, 10-7, a season ago. Garrett Lewis ran for 123 yards with a touchdown and caught an 80-yard pass for another tally in the Trojans’ 24-21 loss to LaPorte. Travis Davis came up with 125 yards rushing and four scores in Valparaiso’s 35-14 win over Michigan City. Matt’s pick: Valparaiso 39, Chesterton 13.

LaPorte (1-3, 1-1 DAC) at Lake Central (2-2, 1-1 DAC): The Slicers went to overtime to earn a 27-20 win over Lake Central last year. Jack Doty connected on the game-winning 18-yard field goal for LaPorte against Chesterton. Narmer Griffin managed four rushes for 34 yards and a score in the Indians’ 35-10 loss to Crown Point. Matt’s pick: Lake Central 30, LaPorte 25.

Michigan City (1-3, 1-1 DAC) at Merrillville (3-1, 1-1 DAC): The No. 3 (Class 5A) Pirates clubbed Michigan City, 40-14, last season. Marquez Dabney came up with a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown for the Wolves against Valparaiso. Jaylen Thomas tossed for 249 yards and two scores in Merrillville’s 35-13 win over Portage. Matt’s pick: Merrillville 45, Michigan City 21.

Portage (1-3, 0-2 DAC) at Crown Point (4-0, 2-0 DAC): The Indians dropped a 27-6 decision to Crown Point a year ago. Terrell Craft tallied 27 carries for 105 yards with a score for Portage against Merrillville. Boedy Burandt raced five times for 90 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs against Lake Central. Matt’s pick: Crown Point 40, Portage 10.
