Another year of high school basketball gets going this week and I am hoping to improve on last year’s record of 266-81, which was good for 77 percent for the 2019-20 campaign. Records are from last year unless indicated.

TUESDAY

LaPorte (10-13) at Riley (12-11): The Wildcats edged LaPorte, 70-66, a year ago. Ales Daniel replaces Andre Owens as the top man at Riley. Grant Ott-Large tallied 327 points last season for the Slicers. Notre Dame recruit Blake Wesley accumulated 597 points for Riley. Matt’s pick: Riley 74, LaPorte 59.

WEDNESDAY

Bremen (6-18) at Argos (16-9): The Lions clawed past Argos, 60-42, last season. Matt Miller takes over for Jerry Smith at Bremen.  Carson Miller came up with 299 points for the Lions last year. Michael Richard helped the Dragons to a Class 1A sectional crown with 136 points. Matt’s pick: Bremen 39, Argos 38.

Glenn (14-9) at Plymouth (6-17): The Falcons soared to a 64-45 win over Plymouth last year. Carter Yung racked up 267 points for Glenn. Jake Reichard netted 352 points for the Pilgrims a year ago. Matt’s pick: Glenn 54, Plymouth 51.

Indianapolis Shortridge (4-20) at Warsaw (13-10): Drew Fountain takes over for Jeff Strange at Shortridge. Matt Moore replaces Doug Ogle as the Tigers’ leader. Will Smith is one of the standouts for the Blue Devils. Luke Adamiec accounted for 189 points for Warsaw. Matt’s pick: Warsaw 59, Shortridge 44.
