MATT’S MATCHUPS 2020-21 HOOPS – WEEK EIGHT

The first week of 2021 began with a 16-7 (70 percent) mark. My overall record is now 105-27, which has me at 80 percent for the season.

TUESDAY

Elkhart (4-6, 1-3 NIC) at Glenn (8-0, 2-0 NIC): Malachi Emmons netted eight points in the Lions’ 67-62 loss at Riley. Joe Delinski tallied 10 points in the Falcons’ 51-50 win at No. 10 (Class 1A) Triton. Matt’s pick: Glenn 58, Elkhart 54.

Elkhart Christian (2-4) at Bremen (6-2): The Eagles soared to a 60-46 win over Bremen last year. Connor Hundt’s two points helped the Lions to a 48-43 win over Bethany Christian. Noah Hunt poured in 18 points in Elkhart Christian’s 77-45 win over Prairie Heights. Matt’s pick: Bremen 51, Elkhart Christian 42.

Jimtown (3-5) at Mishawaka (4-1): The Jimmies posted a 57-39 victory against Mishawaka a season ago. Braxton Rice ended with five points in Jimtown’s 62-59 win at Clay. Arthur Jones came up with four points in the Cavemen’s 48-37 win over Plymouth, Matt’s pick: Mishawaka 59, Jimtown 43.

New Prairie (7-3) at Wheeler (0-5): The Cougars eliminated Wheeler from the state tournament a year ago with a 65-44 win in the Class 3A Hanover Central sectional opener. Braydon Flagg managed 11 points in New Prairie’s 50-46 loss to Glenn.  River Halsey ended with 10 points in the Bearcats’ 59-45 loss to Griffith. Matt’s pick: New Prairie 67, Wheeler 50.

Northridge (5-3) at Riley (7-3): The Wildcats are looking to avenge a 68-62 loss to Northridge last season. Clay Stoltzfus’ three points were not enough in the Raiders’ 52-37 loss at Warsaw. Jackson Copley chipped in eight points for Riley against Elkhart. Matt’s pick: Riley 73, Northridge 66.

Oregon-Davis (4-2) at Clay (1-9): Gavin Sibo recorded 12 points in the Bobcats’ 47-32 loss to Rochester. Nick Wade contributed four points for the Colonials against Jimtown. Matt’s pick: Clay 60, Oregon-Davis 57.

Penn (2-4) at Warsaw (6-5): The Tigers clawed past Penn, 58-54, in overtime in the 2020 Class 4A Elkhart sectional semifinals. Casey Shultz added 10 points for the Kingsmen in their 53-52 loss to Valparaiso. Jaxon Gould poured in 18 points for Warsaw against Northridge. Matt’s pick: Warsaw 52, Penn 49.
