HERE’S TO THE WINNERS

Beech Grove (22-6): Anthony Ball racked up 17 points and 20 rebounds to guide the Hornets to their first state crown with a 53-43 decision over No. 2 Marian in the Class 3A final.

Indianapolis Cathedral (26-6): Jason Edwards recorded 14 points as the No. 8 Fighting Irish earned their first state championship since 1998 with a 65-31 win over No. 1 Chesterton in the Class 4A title affair.

North Daviess (27-3): Devin Collins helped the No. 2 Cougars to their first state crown with 15 points in their 48-46 double overtime win over Lafayette Central Catholic in the Class 1A finale.

Providence (21-6): Casey Kaelin netted nine of his 21 points in the opening stanza to lead the Pioneers to a 62-49 triumph over No. 3 Central Noble for their first Class 2A state crown.

SECOND BEST

Central Noble (28-3): Ryan Schroeder managed 12 points for the Cougars against Providence.

Chesterton (29-1): Travis Grayson was held to just five points for the Trojans against Indianapolis Cathedral.

Lafayette Central Catholic (20-10): Clark Obermiller tallied 13 points for the Knights against North Daviess and was the recipient of the Ray Craft Mental Attitude Award.

Marian (24-4): Deaglan Sullivan mustered 10 points for the Knights against Beech Grove.

FINAL SENSATIONAL SEVEN

  1. Marian (24-4): Richard Brooks closed out his high school career for the Knights against Beech Grove by netting 13 points and being named the Trester Mental Attitude Award winner.
  2. Penn (24-3): Marcus Burton averaged 26.9 points per game for the No. 6 (Class 4A) Kingsmem.
  3. NorthWood (25-3): Cade Brenner and the No. 3 (Class 3A) Panthers established a new record for wins in a season and reached No. 1 for the first time.
  4. Glenn (24-2): Brycen Hannah tallied 17 points per contest to help the top-ranked (Class 3A) Falcons to a new-best for victories in a campaign.
  5. Warsaw (16-8): Jaxson Gould came up with 19.7 points a game for the Tigers.
  6. Washington (15-10): Marcus Northern racked up 15.4 points a contest for the Panthers.
  7. Adams (14-13): Tommy Snyder accounted for 21.8 points a game for the Eagles.

MATT’S MATCHUPS – FINAL

A 2-2 mark in the state finals gave me a final record of 338-98, which left me at 78 percent for the 2021-22 campaign.
