CHICAGO, Ill. – Following his complete-game shutout last Monday, IU South Bend pitcher Payton Carney was named the CCAC Pitcher of the Week.
Carney led the Titans (9-16, 3-6 CCAC) to a 4-0 victory over Calumet last week, by throwing the second nine-inning complete game shutout in program history. The sophomore scattered three hits and worked around a pair of walks while striking out six for the win.
Carney’s award is program’s second-ever CCAC Pitcher of the Week honor since the team’s debut in 2016. The Hudsonville, Mich. native holds a 1-2 record in three starts with an opponent’s average of .222 on the year.
IU South Bend hosts St. Francis for a single game at Rex Weade Stadium on Wednesday, before welcoming Olivet Nazarene for a weekend doubleheader on Saturday.
