SOUTH BEND, Ind. – IU South Bend claimed their sixth straight CCAC victory to start the season on Tuesday night, with a straight-set win over Trinity International, 25-21, 25-13, 25-18.

 

Senior Hannah Marchand led the way for the Titans (10-3, 6-0 CCAC) scoring a match high 14 kills, two aces, and three blocks. McKenzie Powell registered 34 assists along with 12 digs, while libero Suriya Van der Oord picked up a match-high 13 digs to lead the back line.

 

The Trojans (10-8, 5-3 CCAC) held a slight lead to start the match, but IUSB took control of the opening set following six straight points in a run that included a pair of kills from Marchand, and back-to-back aces from Powell. A kill from Van der Oord later in the set capped a 6-2 run that stretched the IUSB lead to 19-14. Another kill from Powell made it 23-19, and a pair of TIU attacking errors closed out the first set in favor of the Titans.

 

The second set started close as well, before a seven-point run for IUSB suddenly doubled-up the Trojans, 16-8. The Titans closed out the win by scoring 8 of the final 11 points to take the set, 25-13, finishing with a kill from Macy Vondoloski to claim a 2-0 lead in the match.

 

The Titans fell behind 3-0 to start the third set, before a kill from Julie Brown stated a six-point rally to give the home team a lead they would hold the rest of the way.

 

Three Titans finished in double figures in the win, including Marchand, as Amber Jacobs tallied 11 kills, and Brown finished with 10 kills and a team-high .375 attack percentage. Jacobs also recorded a double-double, with 12 digs, her fourth of the year.

 

IU South Bend hit the road for their next two matches, beginning with a visit to Trinity Christian on Thursday, September 30. First serve from Palos Heights, Ill. is set for 8:00 p.m.
