SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Four players scored in double figures as the Indiana University South Bend women’s basketball team (3-0) earned its first win on its home court, defeating IU Northwest by a score of 76-50

Leading the Crimson and Cream were sophomores Maddie Gard and Katie Gard as they both chipped in 19 points and two steals. Katie Gard also led the team in assists adding four to her stat line while senior Courtney Haynes pulls down a game-high of 10 rebounds and three steals. Emma Fisher and Rachael Robards also chipped in ten points in the 26-point win over the Redhawks.

A close first quarter kept the Titans on their toes as IU Northwest got out to a quick 5-0 lead. K. Gard drove hard to the basket collecting an and one to earn the first points of the game for IU South Bend at the 6:17 mark. K. Gard scored all seven points for the Titans in the first ten minutes going into the second quarter down 7-12. IUSB began the second quarter on a 13-0 run holding the Redhawks scoreless and forcing a timeout. IUSB went into the break up 32-18 after outscoring IUN by 19 points in the second.

The third quarter was no let up for the Crimson and Cream as M. Gard hit a three in the corner followed by a steal on the inbounds by K. Gard to Fisher for a layup. After scoring 25 points in the third, IU South Bend gained their biggest lead of 31 points in the fourth after a corner three from Robards. All players for the Titans saw minutes as they cruised to their third win of the season.

For the game, Indiana University South Bend forced 30 Redhawk turnovers and converted them to 28 points for the Titans while IUN only scored eight points off of turnovers. IUSB took the ball to the hole, scoring 40 points in the paint unlike IU Northwest’s 26.

IU South Bend returns to action on Saturday, December 19 at 3:00 p.m. as they travel to Goshen, Ind. to take on the Goshen Maple Leafs. This will be the last game for the Titans before starting Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Jan. 2 at Holy Cross.
