SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend men’s basketball team toppled Trinity Christian College in its season opener Tuesday night, Nov. 24, at the Student Activities Center. Six Titans tallied double-digit points as IUSB shot 63.6 percent (42-of-66) from the floor in the 105-74 win.

The victory is the ninth straight for IUSB, which dates back to Feb. 5, 2020 and the 10th straight season opening win for head coach Scott Cooper.

Sophomore guard Micah Poole scored a career-high 16 points on a career-high 6-of-10 field goals to lead the Titans. Senior Sergio Diaz added 15 points, including two three-pointers, while Dylan AllenDonyell Meredith II and junior transfer Vashawn Sims chipped in 14 points each.

Senior Norell Smith was the leading rebounder for the Crimson & Cream as he grabbed five boards, all which came on the defensive side.

IUSB led by as many as 41 in the second half after taking a 60-24 lead into halftime. The Titans scored 11 points over a four-minute span in the second half to take a decisive margin of victory.

For the game IUSB made 9-of-23 on three-pointers (.391) and scored 62 points in the paint to Trinity Christian’s 24. The Trolls shot 28-of-54 (.519) from the field, 9-of-22 (.409) from three and 9-of-11 (.818) from the free throw line.

IUSB begins its three-game away schedule at the Thanksgiving Classic hosted by St. Francis, Ill. in Joliet Ill. on Nov. 29 & 30. The Titans face Bellevue and East-West that are both scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. EST.
