Iowa and Nebraska Earn Big Ten Weekly Women’s Basketball Awards

Hawkeyes’ Clark and Huskers’ Markowski capture conference’s final weekly honors for the 2021-22 season

Player of the Week

Caitlin Clark, Iowa

So. – G – West Des Moines, Iowa – Dowling Catholic – Major: Business

• Averaged 33.0 points, 9.3 assists and 7.7 rebounds per game with a .545 field-goal percentage, .520 three-point percentage and a double-double as Iowa posted three wins in as many tries (two vs. top-10 opponents) last week to clinch a share of its first Big Ten title since 2008

• Tallied her 14th double-double of the season in Sunday’s win over No. 6/5 Michigan, finishing with 38 points (11-18 FG, 8-11 3FG), 11 assists and six rebounds

• Narrowly missed triple-doubles in her other two games last week on Feb. 21 against No. 10/6 Indiana (29 points/8 rebounds/8 assists) and Feb. 24 at Rutgers (32 points/9 rebounds/9 assists)

• Earns her 12th career Big Ten Player of the Week award (tied for fifth-most in conference history) and seventh this season (third in Big Ten history)

Big Ten Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll

Angel Reese, So., G/F, MD: Posted her conference-best 16th double-double of the season in a Feb. 25 win over No. 10/10 Indiana, ending up with a game-high 20 points and career high-tying 16 rebounds

Naz Hillmon, Sr., F, MICH: Registered 23.0 ppg. and 11.5 rpg. last week along with her 13th double-double of the season (18 points/15 rebounds Sunday at No. 21/22 Iowa); also became first Michigan player and eighth in Big Ten history to record 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career

Sara Scalia, Jr., G, MINN: Averaged 24.5 ppg., 6.0 rpg. and 3.5 apg. last week in Minnesota’s two wins, including 32 points (8-13 3FG) in Sunday’s victory at Penn State

Freshman of the Week

Alexis Markowski, Nebraska

• Averaged 13.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game with a double-double in Nebraska’s two victories last week 

• Notched her sixth double-double of the season in Sunday’s win over Northwestern, finishing with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds

• Added 11 points and nine rebounds in a win at Wisconsin on Feb. 23

• Collects her eighth Big Ten Freshman of the Week award, tying for third-most in conference history
