Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Penn State Collect Big Ten Weekly Women’s Soccer Honors

Fighting Illini’s Sydney Stephens, Hoosiers’ Jamie Gerstenberg and Paige Webber, Gophers’ Makenzie Langdok and Nittany Lions’ Katherine Asman are latest conference award recipients

 

Offensive Player of the Week

Paige Webber, Indiana

Jr. – M – Grand Blanc, Mich. – Grand Blanc – Major: Human Biology

• Tallied seven points (three goals, one assist) in Indiana’s wins last week over Murray State (4-0) and Kansas State (3-0), helping the Hoosiers to their best start (6-1-1) since 2013

• Netted a hat trick in 42 minutes of action off the bench on Sept. 9 against Murray State, and assisted on Indiana’s opening goal at Kansas State on Sunday

• Chosen for Academic All-Big Ten honors last year

• Earns her first career Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award

Defensive Player of the Week

Makenzie Langdok, Minnesota

Grad. – D – Saint Michael, Minn. – St. Michael-Albertville – Major: Special Education

• Helped lead Minnesota defense to a pair of shutouts last week against Omaha (0-0) and North Dakota (2-0), making the Gophers one of only three teams in the nation not to allow a goal through seven games this season and two shy of the Big Ten record for consecutive shutouts to start a season (9 – Rutgers, 2017)

• Scored an insurance goal in the second half of Sunday’s win over North Dakota on a curling long-distance shot from outside the box

• A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2018, 2019, 2020) and two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (2019, 2020)

• Secures her first career Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award

• Last Minnesota Defensive Player of the Week: Katie Koker (April 6, 2021)

Goalkeeper of the Week

Katherine Asman, Penn State

Jr. – Roswell, Ga. – Roswell – Major: Supply Chain and Information Systems

• Played key role in Penn State’s wins over No. 3 Virginia (4-2) and NC State (1-0) last weekend in Charlottesville, Va.

• Recorded a career-high nine saves in the Sept. 9 win at Virginia (PSU’s first over a top-three opponent since Sept. 11, 2015 – 2-0 at No. 2 Stanford), then added five more stops in Sunday’s shutout of NC State

• Twice selected as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten recipient (2019, 2020)

• Earns her second career Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week award

• Last Penn State Goalkeeper of the Week: Katherine Asman (March 22, 2021)

Co-Freshman of the Week

Sydney Stephens, Illinois

M – Waterloo, Ill. – Waterloo – Major: Early Childhood Education

• Collected five points (one goal, three assists) for the Fighting Illini in victories at Bowling Green (5-1) and Toledo (1-0) last weekend

• Tied school record with three assists (all in the first half) on Sept. 9 at BG, then scored her first collegiate goal in the 79th minute to give Illinois the win at Toledo

• Captures her first career Big Ten Freshman of the Week plaudit
