Fischer Helps Taylor Score Another Big Win

UPLAND, Ind. – The Trojans (3-1) posted their third-straight 30-point victory in Odle Arena on Saturday, taking down Asbury (1-2), 99-65. Madisyn Fischer led the team in scoring, collecting 19 points with four made three-pointers and a 58.3 field goal percentage.

 

Fischer was the key cog in the opening quarter, netting 13 points. The senior hit three-straight treys to complete an 11-point TU rally early in the contest. The TU squad finished the first stanza with six triples and a 60.0 three-point field goal percentage.

 

The hot shooting gave the host squad a significant boost on the day, as the Purple and Gold sank 45.2 percent of their two-point attempts and 36.4 percent of their three-point shots. Taylor hit a season-high 16 long balls with four Trojans nailing at least three triples. Merideth Deckard took all 11 of her shots from beyond the arc, sinking five for a team-high.

 

TU dominated the boards as well, outrebounding Asbury by 29. 12 offensive rebounds for Taylor turned into 23 second chance points in the contest. Kayla Kirtley corralled a career-high 10 rebounds, offering her first double-double performance with 12 points on the day. The junior set additional career-highs with three steals and three assists.

 

The Trojans reached their largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter, utilizing a 14-0 run to open up a 35-point advantage. Claycee West made the final field goal for TU in the 99-65 triumph. West surpassed 10 points for the first time in her career with that last bucket, recording 11 points on the afternoon.

 

The Purple and Gold distributed the ball well on Saturday, picking up a season-high 27 assists. Lauren James dished out five assists for the third-straight contest, while Kiara Nieto set a career-best with four helpers in the win.

 

Taylor is scheduled to take the court again on Tuesday in Odle Arena, battling Brescia (0-4) at 7:00 pm.
