Crown Point wins First State Title since 1985, Third Overall
Crown Point withstood a torrid shooting start by Brownsburg to roll to a 44-34 victory in the Class 4A championship game.

Crown Point fell behind, 19-10, after one quarter as Brownsburg hit 8-of-11 from the floor, including a 6-for-6 performance by senior Alli Becki.

But coach Chris Seibert’s squad held Brownsburg without a field goal over the next 10:58 of playing time to build a nine-point, 31-22 lead in the third quarter. Brownsburg (17-11) did pull within 31-29 after three quarters, but CP never lost the lead.

Crown Point (25-1) thus claimed its first state championship since winning back-to-back titles in 1984 and 1985.
Junior guard Jessica Carrothers led CP with a game-high 25 points.

Becki finished with 19 points, but hit only two of her last nine shots from the floor. Novalee Glass added 10 points.
Brownsburg, coached by Debbie Smiley, made its first appearance in the state finals since winning the title in 1991.

Allie Govert of Crown Point named Mental Attitude Award winner
Following the game, members of the IHSAA Executive Committee named Allie Govert of Crown Point High School as the winner of the Patricia L. Roy Mental Attitude Award in Class 4A Girls Basketball.

The award is presented annually to a senior participant in each classification who was nominated by her principal and coach and has demonstrated excellence in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability.

Govert maintains a 3.9 GPA at her school where she is also a member of the National Honor Society. She was a three-year starter for the girls basketball team and also was a four-year member of the girls soccer team. She was named Academic All-State and to the All-Area teams.

She is the daughter of Larry and Denise Govert of Crown Point, IN and will study nursing while playing soccer at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA.

The Indiana Fever and Indiana Pacers, the presenting sponsor of the IHSAA Girls Basketball State Tournament, presented a $1,000 scholarship to Crown Point High School in the name of Allie Govert.

The award is named in honor of the late former IHSAA assistant commissioner Patricia L. Roy, who oversaw the girls basketball state tournament from its inception in 1976 until her retirement in 1999.
