Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | Sep. 21-27

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of September 21 through 27. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Sarah Spangler, Marian
Spangler and the top-ranked Knights scored a pair of straight-set wins over Grace and Huntington. The junior right-side hitter had the hot hand, ripping 11 kills in each match and averaging 3.7 kills per game with a .487 attack percentage.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Isabelle North, Bethel
North piled up 17 blocks to go with 22 kills in a pair of Bethel victories. The freshman middle blocker was a force at the net in each contest, and set a BU program record with 13 blocks in a five-set thriller over Grace.

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Paige Brenner, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Brenner paced the MVNU offense in wins over Goshen and Spring Arbor, tossing up 7.7 assists per set to go with 2.8 digs per set. The sophomore posted one double-double and finished the two sweeps with 46 assists, 17 digs, seven kills and three service aces.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Erin Oleksak, Marian
Oleksak helped No. 2 Marian take control of the Cross Division with three goals and two assists in MU’s shutout victories over Taylor and RV Mount Vernon Nazarene. The All-American had a part in five of the Knights’ six goals in the two victories.

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Noelle Rolfsen, Marian
Rolfsen tallied a pair of shutouts between the posts for No. 2 Marian in wins against Taylor and Mount Vernon Nazarene. The junior goalie registered seven total saves in the two wins.

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Matheus Santiago, Bethel
Santiago pushed BU to a 4-1 win over Spring Arbor with three goals in the match. The junior finished the week with six points to help Bethel to wins over SAU and Grace.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Arnaud Fady, Bethel
Fady led Bethel to a two-win week with 10 saves in goal to help the Pilots past Spring Arbor and Grace. Fady allowed only one goal in 167 minutes of work and posted a shutout in a 1-0 win against the Lancers.

Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Morgan Forney, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Forney crossed at 19:17 to pace Mount Vernon Nazarene at the Cedarville Open. The junior finished 24th-of-104 runners at the race and helped the Cougars finish in third place in the team standings.

Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Garrett Gemmaka, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Gemmaka highlighted MVNU’s second-place showing at the Cedarville Open, crossing in 26:40 to take 21st-of-105 at the race.

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Maddie Bemisderfer, Indiana Wesleyan
Bemisderfer and the Wildcats cruised to a 29th-straight Crossroads League Tournament Championship. Bemisderfer led the way, going 6-0 in the tournament at the top of the IWU lineup.

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Stefano Di Aloy, Indiana Wesleyan
Di Aloy led Indiana Wesleyan to the Crossroads League Tournament Championship. Di Aloy went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles in the Wildcats’ title run and added a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles in IWU’s quarterfinals win.
