Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | Nov. 9-15

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from November 9 through 15. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Madisyn Fischer, Taylor
Fischer led Taylor to a pair of blowout victories, scoring 19 points in each, while shooting 59.1 percent from the floor. TU scored at least 95 points in its wins over Madonna and Asbury, with 19.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game from Fischer.

 

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kyle Mangas, Indiana Wesleyan
Mangas broke the single-game scoring record for Indiana Wesleyan by erupting for 51 points on 21-of-36 shooting in No. 3 IWU’s 114-70 rout of Oakland City. Mangas added six rebounds and five assists, while moving into third on the CL’s all-time career scoring list.

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Ana Collar, Indiana Wesleyan
Collar led the way for No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan in its run to the CL Tournament Championship. The junior averaged 3.3 kills and 4.6 digs per set, while hitting .314 and posted a 12-kill, 23-dig double-double in the Wildcats’ championship match sweep of No. 1 Marian.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Havyn Gates, Indiana Wesleyan
Gates recorded 58 digs in the Crossroads League Tournament for No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan, including 25 in IWU’s three-set win over No. 1 Marian to secure the championship. During the tournament, Gates averaged 5.8 digs per set and had a pair of showings with at least 24 digs.

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Olivia Zawadski, Indiana Wesleyan

Zawadski tossed up 10.7 assists per set to help No. 7 IWU claim the Crossroads League Tournament Championship. The freshman had 41 assists in a four-set win over Saint Francis in the semis, before adding 37 in a title match win over top-ranked Marian.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Erin Oleksak, Marian
Oleksak came up large in No. 2 Marian’s march to the Crossroads League Tournament Championship, assisting one goal in a 4-2 win over MVNU, before posting a goal and another assist in a 2-0 shutout of No. 14 Grace in the title match.

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Siera Stuart, Marian
Stuart was a key piece of a dominant defensive showing from No. 2 Marian throughout the Crossroads League Tournament and helped the Knights limit No. 14 Grace to just five shots in a 2-0 championship match victory.

 

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Cole Russell, Spring Arbor
Russell found the back of the net three times in No. 12 Spring Arbor’s two CL Tournament victories, scoring once in a 2-1 upset of top-seeded Bethel and striking twice in SAU’s 2-1 overtime win over Grace to secure the league crown.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Christopher Banfi, Spring Arbor
Banfi was the last line of defense for No. 12 Spring Arbor in wins over Bethel and Grace in the CL Tournament, notching seven total saves and allowing just two goals against the top-two scoring offenses in the league to help lead the Cougars to the CL Tourney Championship.
