Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | Nov. 2-8

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of November 2 through 8. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Lauren James, Taylor
James sank 13-of-19 field goal attempts and 10-of-15 looks from deep while scoring 41 points in 46 minutes over a pair of Taylor games. The junior posted 22 points, nine assists and five rebounds in 22 minutes during TU’s 107-59 win over Cornerstone.

 

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kyle Mangas, Indiana Wesleyan
Mangas stayed red-hot for the unbeaten Wildcats, averaging 27.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.3 blocks in a trio of wins for No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan. The All-American shot 69.2 percent from the floor, 61.5 percent from deep and was 20-for-20 from the line.

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Ana Collar, Indiana Wesleyan
Collar posted 14 kills in each of her matches, averaging 4.0 kills per set with a .390 hitting percentage in No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan’s wins over Goshen and Taylor. The junior also averaged 3.1 digs per set for the Wildcats.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Havyn Gates, Indiana Wesleyan
Gates racked up 34 digs and six aces in No. 7 IWU’s wins over Goshen and Taylor, ripping five aces in a sweep of the Leafs and adding 24 digs in a four-set win at TU.

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Maria Pelak, Saint Francis

Pelak was named the league’s top setter once again, tossing up 102 assists in a trio of Saint Francis victories. The senior averaged 11.3 assists per set in the three sweeps and added 3.0 digs per set in those wins.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Alexis Larimore, Grace
Larimore picked up four goals and one assist in a pair of wins for No. 14 Grace. The junior netted the game winner against Bethel in the regular season finale and struck for three goals in a 6-0 win over USF to open the CL Tournament.

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Bethany Blackwood, Grace
Blackwood extended her shutout streak to four with a 1-0 win over Bethel and a 6-0 win against Saint Francis. The Grace goalie picked up one save in each showing and has worked 367-straight scoreless minutes in net for the No. 14 Lancers.

 

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Ulisses Miranda, Grace
Miranda played a pivotal role in Grace’s 3-2 upset win over Mount Vernon Nazarene in the CL Tournament Quarterfinals, scoring two goals and assisting another. The senior forward also added an assist in the Lancers’ 3-0 win over Marian to close the regular season.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Joe Bowles, Grace
Bowles made seven saves in a pair of Grace victories, posting a shutout over Marian and helping the Lancers score a 3-2 upset of MVNU in the first round of the Crossroads League Tournament.

 

Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Emma Wilson, Huntington
Wilson blitzed the Indiana Wesleyan course, crossing with a record time of 16:40 to win the Crossroads League Championship in dominant fashion.

 

Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Nelson Kemboi, Goshen
Kemboi ran the fastest time of his career to win the Crossroads League Championship. The sophomore’s time of 25:05 gave him a four-second victory and was Goshen’s eighth-best time in program history.
