Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | May 3-9

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top athletes from May 3 through 9. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Softball Player of the Week
Maddi Evans, Taylor
Evans was a force for RV Taylor in its Crossroads League Tournament run to the title game, hitting .364 with seven runs, four homers, nine RBI and one double over seven games. Evans also won five games in the circle for the Trojans in the four-day stretch.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Maddi Evans, Taylor
Evans pitched RV Taylor into the title game of the Crossroads League Tournament with wins against No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan, No. 9 Marian and RV MVNU. Evans ended the week 5-0 with 38 strikeouts and a 2.36 earned-run average for the Trojans.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Trey Heidlage, Marian
Heidlage got off to a hot start for the Knights in the Crossroads League Tournament, collecting four hits in two games for a .667 average. The freshman also had one double, one stolen base and two runs batted in.

 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Alex McCutcheon, Huntington
McCutcheon fired a complete-game gem in Huntington’s 2-1 victory over RV Taylor in the Crossroads League Tournament. The senior scattered five hits and did not issue a walk, while fanning five batters over nine innings.

 

Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Runner of the Week
Jai-Lyn Norwood, Marian
Norwood accounted for 22 points toward Marian’s league championship with a win in the triple jump and third-place showings in the high jump and long jump.

 

Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Erin Oleksak, Marian
Oleksak scored wins in the 100-meter hurdles, 4×100-meter relay and long jump for Marian at the Crossroads League Championships and finished third in the 400-meter hurdles and second in the high jump to help MU claim the team title.

 

Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Runner of the Week
Steven Ott, Indiana Wesleyan
Ott raced to individual wins in the 800-meters and 1,500-meters at the Crossroads League Championships for Indiana Wesleyan. The senior posted times of 1:52.59 and 3:54.35 in the two race victories.

 

Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Jacob Gerber, Goshen
Gerber won the hammer throw at the Crossroads League Championship with a throw of 62.07 meters. The mark was the second-best in meet history, the second-best in the NAIA this season and set a new Goshen program record.

 

Women’s Golfer of the Week
Taylor French, Taylor
French led No. 6 Taylor the Crossroads League Championship by winning the individual title by seven strokes. The senior pulled away with the lowest second and third round scores in the field.
