Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | March 22-28

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top athletes from March 22 through 28. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Softball Player of the Week
Kassidi Cadle, Marian
Cadle hit .526 over six games for No. 6 Marian, going four-of-eight in the Knights’ sweep of No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan. The senior logged two doubles, two triples, seven runs and seven runs batted in to help MU to a 5-1 mark on the week.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Sheridan Sullivan, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Sullivan opened the week by firing a five-inning no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 13-0 win over Bethel, before tossing a complete-game shutout victory against No. 6 Marian. In between those two wins in the circle, the freshman tossed eight frames in a 1-0 loss to Saint Francis.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Aaron Saal, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Saal helped the Cougars to a 6-2 week with 14 hits in 30 at bats. The senior scored 14 runs, drilled three home runs and knocked in 15, while stealing six bases and posting a .467 average.

 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Luke Shively, Taylor
Shively tossed a nine-inning shutout in No. 20 Taylor’s 1-0 win over MVNU. The junior righty fanned six and allowed only three hits and one walk without seeing a runner advance to third base. Shively closed the game by retiring the final 10 hitters he faced.

 

Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Runner of the Week
Emma Wilson, Huntington
Wilson won the 1,500 and 5,000-meter races at the Defiance College Open, hitting NAIA ‘A’ marks in each race. Wilson broke Huntington’s record in the 5,000-meters and posted the program’s second-best time in the 1,500-meters.

 

Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Patience Sakeuh, Taylor
Sakeuh posted wins in the long jump and 100-meter hurdles at the Indiana Wesleyan Invite, opening her freshman outdoor season with NAIA ‘B’ marks in each event and turning in a pair of top-five performances in TU program history.

 

Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Runner of the Week
Landon Miller, Indiana Wesleyan
Miller cruised to a steeplechase victory for Indiana Wesleyan on his home track, topping the field by 40 seconds with a NAIA-best time of 9:13.68.

 

Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Scott Rathbun, Indiana Wesleyan
Rathbun picked up a win for Indiana Wesleyan in the pole vault with a height of 5.10 meters. The sophomore’s mark was good for the NAIA ‘A’ standard and the top result in the nation so far this outdoor season.
