Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | January 17-23

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top athletes from January 17 through 23. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Ella Collier, Marian
Collier helped No. 7 Marian solidify its hold on first place with wins over MVNU and No. 11 IWU. The sophomore played all 45 minutes of the overtime win at IWU, scoring the game-tying basket with 3.6 seconds left and averaging 20.5 points, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals in the two wins.

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Antwaan Cushingberry, Saint Francis
Cushingberry remained locked in with 31.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 5.0 steals per game in No. 21 USF’s victories over Bethel and Goshen. The junior guard poured in 36 points against BU and 26 against Goshen to help USF extend its win streak to eight in a row.

Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Abbey Brennan, Taylor
Brennan automatically qualified for NAIA Nationals in the 800-meters and 4×800-meter relay at the Indiana Wesleyan Invite. The senior placed second in the 800 and helped Taylor secure the event victory in the 4×800 relay.

Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Jai-Lyn Norwood, Marian
Norwood excelled for Marian once again, hitting the NAIA A standard and breaking the MU program record with a distance of 11.64 meters in the triple jump at Indiana State. Norwood finished second in the event and also placed second in the high jump.

Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Drew Thornton, Marian
Thornton set a new MU program record and automatically qualified for NAIA Nationals with a first-place time of 1:19.82 in the 600-meters for the Knights at the Indiana State Invite. Thornton also helped Marian take fourth in the 4×400-meter relay at the NCAA Division I meet.

Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Noah Bise, Huntington
Bise scored individual wins and school records in the long jump and triple jump for Huntington at the PFW Mastadon Invite. The senior’s mark of 7.2 meters in the long jump also automatically qualified Bise for NAIA Nationals in the event.
