Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | February 21-27

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top athletes from February 21 through 27. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Abby Downard, Marian
Downard helped propel No. 4 Marian into the Crossroads League Tournament Championship with 14.5 points, 7.5 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.5 rebounds per game in wins over Bethel and Taylor. The senior guard posted a double-double in just 19 minutes against BU.

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Frankie Davidson, Grace
Davidson led RV Grace past MVNU and No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League Tournament, posting 24.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Davidson poured in 28 against Mount Vernon Nazarene and 21 in the upset at IWU, shooting 62.1 percent in the two wins.

Baseball Player of the Week
Kaleb Kolpien, Taylor
Kolpien sparked Taylor to a neutral-field series win over RV Olivet Nazarene by hitting .563 with nine hits in 16 at bats for the Trojans. The standout freshman finished the weekend with six runs, three doubles, five RBI, one steal, and also added his first collegiate save on the mound.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Josh Pettit, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Pettit was overpowering on the bump for MVNU in a pair of starts. The sophomore righty fanned 25 batters in 12 innings, allowing just two earned runs and 11 base runners. Pettit tossed a 16-whiff, three-hit shutout in the Cougars’ 3-0 win against Cornerstone.

Softball Player of the Week
Kaycee Ollis, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Ollis continued her hot start for MVNU, smashing three home runs and hitting .429 over four games. The junior catcher added four runs, one double and seven runs batted in, while posting a slugging percentage of 1.143 over 14 at bats.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Danielle Munn, Indiana Wesleyan
Munn went 2-0 with a save in the circle for No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan by firing 10 scoreless frames in the three outings. Munn highlighted her week with 10 strikeouts in six scoreless innings during a 5-0 win against RV Reinhardt.

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Maddie Bemisderfer, Indiana Wesleyan
Bemisderfer led Indiana Wesleyan past DePauw and Northwestern Ohio with a 4-0 week. The junior scored two wins at singles and two in doubles action, while anchoring the top spot in the Wildcat lineup.

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Hunter Sylvester, Marian
Sylvester won a pair of singles contests for Marian at the No. 2 slot in the lineup and helped the Knights secure a 5-2 win over RV Arizona Christian.
