Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | February 15-21

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top athletes from February 15 through 21. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Imani Guy, Marian
Guy helped No. 4 Marian complete an unbeaten league slate with a lopsided win over MVNU, going for 25 points, eight rebounds, four blocks, three steals and two assists in just 21 minutes of court time for the Knights.

 

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kyle Mangas, Indiana Wesleyan
Mangas was unstoppable in No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan’s 117-78 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene, scoring 40 points and dishing out seven assists in 30 minutes of work. Mangas set the tone early, scoring 30 points in the opening half.

 

Baseball Hitter of the Week
Dion Wintjes, Marian
Wintjes collected three hits in seven at bats for Marian, stroking one home run and one double and added three runs batted in during a doubleheader split with Oakland City.

 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Hunter Frost, Saint Francis
Frost tossed his second complete-game victory in as many collegiate starts, fueling Saint Francis to a 3-1 win over Thomas More with nine strikeouts in seven innings. Frost did not allow an earned run, yielding two hits and just one walk.

 

Women’s Indoor Track and Field Runner of the Week
Emma Mott, Bethel
Mott led Bethel to its first Crossroads League Indoor Track and Field Championship with individual wins in the 600, 800 and 1,000-meters and a third-place showing in the distance-medley relay for the Pilots.

 

Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Paige Sutter, Indiana Wesleyan
Sutter won the Crossroads League Championship in the shot put with a NAIA-leading mark of 13.83 meters and also finished third in the weight throw for Indiana Wesleyan at the league meet.

 

Men’s Indoor Track and Field Runner of the Week
Thomas Jackson, Bethel
Jackson highlighted Bethel’s strong team showing at the Crossroads League Championships with individual titles in the long jump and triple jump for the Pilots.

 

Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Landon Miller, Indiana Wesleyan
Miller scored individual titles for Indiana Wesleyan in the 5,000-meters and mile at the Crossroads League Championships. The senior’s times were the best in the NAIA this season in those events and set new meet records.
