Chilton Named PFL Defensive Player of the Week by League Office, College Sports Madness

After notching a pair of takeaways to help the Valparaiso University football team down Dayton 45-28 on Saturday, redshirt sophomore Austin Chilton (Windermere, Fla. / West Orange) has earned Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Week accolades from both College Sports Madness and the league office.

Chilton notched his third interception of the season, one of his two takeaways that played a key role in Valpo’s victory over Dayton. He also recovered a fumble in the second quarter on a punt that was inadvertently touched by a Dayton player.

Chilton also accrued five tackles including three solos and made 0.5 tackles for loss. His efforts helped Valpo pull away in the second half to dispatch Dayton 45-28 at Brown Field, the program’s most lopsided victory in 30 all-time meetings with the Flyers.

Valpo now has five weekly honors from either the league office or College Sports Madness this season.

Valpo will return to action this week on Saturday at 3 p.m. at San Diego.
