Big Ten Hockey Preseason Honors
Minnesota selected as the preseason favorite by coaches

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Minnesota was tabbed the favorite in the 2021-22 Big Ten hockey preseason coaches’ poll, the conference announced on Friday. The coaches also selected Preseason All-Big Ten teams, highlighted by a pair of 2020-21 individual award winners.

Michigan was selected second in the preseason poll, with Wisconsin claiming third, Notre Dame earning fourth, Penn State taking fifth, Michigan State placing sixth and Ohio State rounding out the poll in seventh.

The Preseason All-Big Ten teams are comprised of six players on each team: three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender. Minnesota led the way with seven honorees, followed by Michigan with four and Michigan State with three.

Twelve standouts who earned All-Big Ten accolades last season are featured on the preseason teams, including 2021 Big Ten Freshman of the Year Thomas Bordeleau from Michigan and Minnesota’s Jack LaFontaine, the 2021 Big Ten Goaltender of the Year.

The list also includes 10 students who were Academic All-Big Ten honorees last season in Michigan State’s Dennis Cesana and Drew DeRidder, Minnesota’s Ryan Johnson, LaFontaine, Ben Meyers and Sammy Walker, Notre Dame’s Graham Slaggertand Spencer Stastney, Ohio State’s Quinn Preston, and Wisconsin’s Roman Ahcan.
