Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | September 6-12

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top athletes from September 6 through September 12. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Isabelle North, Bethel

North repeated as the CL’s top attacker, this time hitting .519 with 4.2 kills per set in No. 25 Bethel’s three outings. The sophomore also added 0.8 blocks per set and highlighted her strong week with the Pilots by slamming 22 kills in 28 swings in a four-set win over Spring Arbor.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Skyler Van Note, Marian

Van Note posted a trio of double-doubles for No. 13 Marian, leading the Knights to three sweeps with 5.4 digs, 0.6 blocks and 4.2 kills per set. The senior’s strongest showing came against Taylor with 19 digs, 11 kills and two blocks.

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Olivia Zawadzki, Indiana Wesleyan

Zawadzki tossed up 99 assists over three victories for No. 16 Indiana Wesleyan, netting 11.0 assists, 1.1 digs, 1.1 kills and 0.7 aces per set for the Wildcats. Zawadzki’s finest outing came in a four-set win over Grace with 50 assists, six digs and one ace.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Chloe Sena, Taylor
Sena scored a goal in each of Taylor’s two shutout victories last week, finding the back of the net with unassisted strikes in two of her three shot attempts over the two matches.

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Aitana Arguis, Grace
Arguis highlighted a stout defensive showing from No. 15 Grace in a pair of shutout wins. The junior helped the Lancers to a 2-0 victory over Indiana Tech and scored the only goal of the contest in a 1-0 defeat of No. 24 Northwestern Ohio.

 

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Andre Sabino, Bethel
Sabino had a part in all six goals that Bethel scored in a pair of 3-0 wins against Trinity International and Madonna. The freshman midfielder had one goal and two assists in each outing and climbed into a tie for the NAIA lead in assists this season.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Matteo Conci, Grace
Conci turned in a pair of strong efforts in goal for RV Grace, stuffing a penalty kick and adding seven saves in a 2-1 loss at No. 1 Missouri Valley, before posting a shutout with six saves in GC’s 4-0 win against Cornerstone.

 

Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week

Shelby Christman, Huntington

Christman stole the show in her collegiate debut with No. 10 Huntington, winning the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational with a time of 17:36 to post a 15-second gap over the next finisher.

 

Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week

Daniel Gerber, Taylor

Gerber opened his senior campaign by winning the Indiana Wesleyan Invite with a personal-best time of 24:38.9. The mark was the fifth-best time in program history for the No. 1-ranked Trojans.

 

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Lena Golz, Indiana Wesleyan
Golz played through an undefeated week for Indiana Wesleyan at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles. Golz did not drop a set in either of her singles competitions.

 

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Connor Mogle, Spring Arbor
Mogle won all three of his matches over a pair of wins for Spring Arbor. Mogle went 2-0 atop SAU’s singles lineup and added a win at No. 1 doubles.
