Men’s Soccer Claims Crossroads League Regular Season Title

MISHAWAKA – With the announcement of the postponement of Wednesday night’s match between Bethel and MVNU, Bethel Men’s Soccer completed their 2020 Crossroads League schedule in first place with a 6-1-1 record and 19 points in the standings to claim the 2020 Crossroads League Regular Season Title. The Pilots earn the title with a winning percentage of .812 in league play; no other team in the standings has enough games left on the schedule to catch the Pilots’ winning percentage or points.

It is the Pilots’ 15th Crossroads League regular season title in program history and their first since 2016. The Pilots matched their most wins in league play since 2011 and had their fewest losses in league play since 2010. Four different Pilots earned NAIA or NCCAA National and/or Crossroads League Player of the Week awards this season, led by Arnaud Fady and Matheus Santiago each being named an NAIA Player of the Week once and Crossroads League Player of the Week twice. Jose Barquin and Willian dos Santos have also been honored this season with awards.

The Pilots lead the Crossroads League in goals, assist, and shots on goal per game, while Barquin leads the league in points per game and game-winning goals, and Anu Junior Alemanji leads in assists.

The Pilots will open up the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals at Morey Field on Saturday and await word on what opponent they will face, as the bracket will be announced at the full conclusion of league play later this week. They own home field advantage throughout the remainder of the tournament as well.

“Proud of our team for their effort and performance this season,” said Head Coach Thiago Pinto. “Our upperclassmen have done a great job leading the way and adapting through adversity in one of the most challenging years. There is still much ahead to play for, and it is a great opportunity to represent Bethel and fulfill our team purpose for this year.”
