Ten Badgers record points, Caufield records hat trick in 7-0 win

MADISON, Wis. — A hat trick by national scoring leader and Hobey Baker Award candidate Cole Caufield, the No. 5 Wisconsin men’s hockey team (17-8-1, 15-6-1 1-1-0 Big Ten) shutout the Ohio State Buckeyes (6-17-1, 6-16-0 0-2-0 Big Ten) by 7-0 score in its final home game of the season.

Caufield opened the scoring for the Badgers at 11:48 of the first period with his 20th goal of the season. On a feed from Ty Emberson and Linus Weissbach, Caufield’s initial shot was blocked by an OSU defensman, but he stuck with it to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead.

The Badgers kept OSU to just three shots in the first period.

Wisconsin doubled their lead 43 seconds into the second period with another goal from Cole Caufield, assisted by Weissbach and Ty Pelton-Byce. On a two-on-one, Weissbach fed Caufield for a one-timer that he fired past Ohio State goaltender Tommy Nappier.

At the 15:12 mark of the second period, Dylan Holloway added to the Badgers’ lead with his third goal in two games. Holloway dished to Brock Caufield, before going to the net for the return pass and finish.
