Helming Preseason All-MVC; Beacons Picked Third
With the start of the 2026 season right around the corner, Valpo volleyball junior Ava Helming (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) has been named to the Preseason All-MVC Team, while the Beacons have been picked to finish third in the preseason coaches poll.
Helming earned her spot on the preseason squad after a tremendous sophomore campaign which saw her earn First Team All-MVC recognition. The junior led the team with 364 kills on .323 hitting, ranking eighth in the MVC in kills and 12th in hitting percentage. She moved into eighth on Valpo’s single-season 25-point era charts in hitting percentage and 10th in kills.
The Beacons garnered 88 points in the preseason polling to finish in third place in the poll, trailing only Drake and UNI.
Valpo opens the 2026 season this weekend at the Chattanooga Classic, kicking off action Friday against UAB and the hosts.
