TU Men Open Florida Trip with Loss to Keiser
BABSON PARK, Fla. – A contested neutral court game tilted in Keiser’s favor on Tuesday, as Taylor went one-of-14 from three-point range over the final 20 minutes and could not keep pace down the stretch of a 75-62 defeat on the first day of back-to-back games for TU in Florida.
Keiser (6-7) raced to a 21-9 lead on the Webber International court but the Trojans put up 20 points over the final 7:28 of the opening stanza to cut the deficit to 42-39 at the half. Jason Hubbard, Kaden Fuhrmann and Jackson Lewis fueled the rally with five points each during that stretch.
Taylor drew within a single point three different times in the early moments of the second on a trio of buckets from Hubbard, with a Hubbard dunk at the 12:42 mark making it a 50-49 score.
TU would not make another basket until the 6:19 mark, and the Seahawks took full advantage with an 11-0 run that opened a double-digit gap that remained the rest of the contest.
Taylor shot 50.0 percent in the opening half and connected five times from deep, but lost its touch over the final stanza, posting a 27.6-percent clip from the floor and a one-of-14 showing from deep during the second half.
Hubbard led with 23 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, with Fuhrmann adding 12 points and Lewis posting six points, five assists and two steals.
Taylor (6-9) will return to action on Wednesday against Webber International (5-10). Tip for TU’s second game in as many days in the Sunshine State is set for 5:00 pm.
