TU Football Falls at No. 5 Marian
INDIANAPOLIS – A battle of two unbeaten MSFA Mideast League opponents was dominated by No. 5 Marian on Saturday, as the hosts found the end zone of their first six offensive possessions and cruised to a 67-7 victory over Taylor.
The Trojans’ lone score came on their third drive of the afternoon, with Elijah McCloskey connecting with Dakohta Sonnichsen on an 80-yard touchdown completion to cut Marian’s lead to 20-7.
The touchdown was just the third allowed by MU (4-0, 2-0 MSFA) this season and would be the last points of the contest for TU.
Despite only mustering seven points, Taylor did move the ball on the Knights, ending with 300 total yards of offense, with 177 coming through the air and 123 coming on the ground.
Taylor could not get its ground game on track however, managing just 2.6 yards per touch and was further hurt by four turnovers that led directly to a pair of Marian touchdowns.
McCloskey closed the game eight-for-16 passing with the 177 yards and one touchdown, while Sonnichsen caught two passes for 82 yards and the one score. Jack D’Arcy also collected two receptions and ended with 45 receiving yards.
Jacob Hockett posted a team-leading eight tackles, with Evan Kitt adding seven. Christian Severt and Jeremiah Mansfield were each credited with one tackle for lost yardage.
Taylor (3-3, 1-1 MSFA) will take its bye week, before continuing league play against No. 15 Concordia (1-3, 0-1 MSFA) inside Turner Stadium at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 15.
