Trojans Split Top-25 Showdown with IWU

MARION, Ind. – No. 18 Taylor traveled across county to take on No. 23 Indiana Wesleyan on Friday, with the top spot in the Crossroads League standings up for grabs. Both sides held their ground, with each team taking a lopsided victory to split the first two games of the four-game weekend series.

The Wildcats punished an uncharacteristically sloppy Taylor defense in the opener, as four Trojan errors opened the flood gates in a 15-3 Indiana Wesleyan victory.

Nick Rusche went 2-4 with a double and a run in the loss, with Jonathan Foster delivering the first home run of his collegiate career.

Taylor bounced back in the nightcap, returning the favor with a blowout, 12-2, win over the hosts. Noah Huseman set the tone on the bump, fanning nine batters and allowing only two earned runs over six strong innings to improve to 6-1.

The TU bats came alive in support of Huseman, as Joe Moran homered twice and TJ Bass also cleared the fences to help the Trojans score at least one run in each of the final five innings of the evening affair.

In addition to his two dingers, Moran scored four times, knocked in three, walked twice and stole two bases. Bass finished 3-4 with three runs and three RBI along with his home run and Foster stayed hot with a 2-2 showing at the plate that included two runs, two walks and a pair of steals.
