Trojans Score Three-Set Sweep at MVNU
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Taylor volleyball team continued marching through its schedule, dismantling a 16-win Mount Vernon Nazarene squad on the road on Wednesday and handing the Cougars their first home loss of the season via a commanding 25-22, 25-16, 25-17 margin.
The night started with an energized MVNU (16-3, 6-2 CL) club surging to a 17-10 lead in the opening set, before the Trojans countered with a 10-3 spurt to draw even at 20-20. TU finished off the comeback with five of the next seven points and carried the momentum for the rest of the evening, jumping to a 10-3 lead in the second and cruising to comfortable wins in the final two sets to complete the sweep.
Taylor earned just its second win at Mount Vernon Nazarene in its last nine trips by piling up 30 more kills and six more blocks than the hosts. TU also out-hit MVNU by a .254 to .028 gap and held the Cougars below .100 in all three sets. The Trojans got stronger throughout the match, hitting .185, .262 and .367 progressively in the three sets.
Kacy Bragg flirted with registering her third career triple-double, tagging a career-high 11 kills in 17 swings and adding 33 assists, eight digs and one service ace.
Stephany Fifield, Nikki Parrett and Ryan Czerniak paced the Taylor defense with strong efforts. Fifield logged 22 digs for her 14th match of at least 20 digs in 19 contests this season, while Parrett added 10 digs and Czerniak had four blocks.
TU’s big-three hitters of Amanda Adams, Czerniak and Grace Isaacs also delivered, as Adams posted 12 kills and two aces, Isaacs had nine kills and Czerniak also slammed nine kills.
RV Taylor (17-2, 7-1 CL) will close its first-half of the Crossroads League schedule on Friday, when it plays at Saint Francis (4-15, 2-6 CL) in a 7:00 pm start. TU is then set to host Grace (7-9, 2-6 CL) on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
