Trojans Drop a Pair against No. 17 Marian on Senior Day
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor (21-20, 18-12 CL) honored seven seniors on Saturday, after dropping both contests in a doubleheader with No. 17 Marian (34-7, 24-6 CL).
The Trojans fell in game one, after a back-and-forth affair.
Taylor plated the first run of the day in the first inning, when Emma West drew a walk to start things off. West, then, advanced to third after a sacrifice bunt by Maddie Evans and a single up the middle by Ashton Whitman. The Trojan leadoff hitter, then, crossed the plate thanks to an RBI-knock by Caitlyn Grim.
After falling behind 3-1 in subsequent innings, TU responded with two in the bottom of the third to tie the game. Meg Stanley laced a liner to left for a base knock to start the rally, before West laid down a bunt that produced a wild throw into right, scoring Stanley and leaving West standing on third with nobody out. Soon after, with one out, Whitman rocketed a liner to left that was caught, but deep enough to score West from third and tie the game at three.
Marian, then, scored the last three runs of the game, to take game one from the Trojans.
Taylor provided a lot of traffic on the bases in game two, with eleven hits, but failed to capitalize and only plated one run in a 9-1 defeat.
Whitman, Grim, Alexi Clay and Alexis McClure each collected two hits in game two, with McClure’s double in the second serving as the only extra-base hit for the Trojans.
TU scored its lone run of the game in the fifth, after McClure ripped a single to left and scored on a base knock by Whitman.
Taylor will be back in action on Tuesday April 26th, when the Trojans take to the road for a matchup with RV Mount Vernon Nazarene (31-11, 21-9 CL). First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
